Launching 2024: Explaining Crime, a Substack newsletter

  • by

I’m launching a Substack newsletter in January 2024.

Called Explaining Crime, it will help readers explain crime to their various audiences, whether those audiences are readers, viewers, or listeners.

At launch, it will include the following:

  • Your First Five, a daily (M-F) list of five new crime studies. Originally a daily Medium column, Your First Five is a curated list of new studies published in peer-reviewed, academic criminology & criminal justice journals. After Explaining Crime launches, Substack subscribers will get each Your First Five a week ahead of Medium readers.
  • What I Do, a weekly series that will feature a single creator in the crime content space and their answers to a series of questions about what they do. I define “creator in the crime content space” broadly and hope to feature a wide variety of people, including crime reporters, academics, podcasters, authors, victims’ advocates, YouTubers, and more. The idea is to share and spread ideas about the different ways people are doing this kind of work and tips for how to do it.

As I gain momentum (and subscribers!), I plan to add other regular components, including tutorials, feature articles, and more.

You can take a look and subscribe ahead of launch here.
